The only black tea in our selection. Why? Because it’s our favourite Taiwanese black tea. Tai Cha #18, Red Jade Tea or commonly known as Ruby 18. It is a hybrid of the Assam tea plant brought to the island of Taiwan by Japanese and a wild tea tree that is native to Taiwan (aka camellia formosensis). Cultivar Ruby 18 was developed by TTRES but the plants were inhibiting area long before. You will recognize some spices in its aroma and flavor: cinnamon, wintergreen, something crisp but also earthily soothing. There is a reason why people get hearts in theirs eyes when trying it first time or after a longer pause.
Flavor: Has a broad mellow soothing pedestal and on top the robust flowery blackness of the tea that we instantly recognize, balanced soup, spicy cinnamon of a candy, sweetish aftertaste.
Aroma: Lilacs, flowery, wintergreen, starfruit, gradually unfolds and gets more sweet.
Location: Yuchi Township, Central Taiwan, Summer 2025
Elevation: 700m
Gong Fu Preparation: 5g of tea per 100ml 100°C. First infusion 30sec, adding +5sec every other infusion (meaning that second brew is 35sec, third one 40sec, etc). Can be brewed up to 6 times. We always recommend to adjust to taste.
